From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of characters who will separate from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.
This warrior group includes Teor (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look mismatched, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the group knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose death started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.
Casimir then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each member has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- Kattigan knows Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
- The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could help the group access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:
- The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This means them little choice but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.
Future Episodes
Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight players to round up the Questers and Schemers groups.
Fans can expect learning which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
